Membership

"Confidence is needed in the area of leadership. God is looking for men and women who, when they meet together, pray with confidence, communicate with confidence, and trust Him with confidence... If we were to raise the qualifications for membership in local churches, and especially for their leadership, we would find fewer men, but greater power. Jesus did not come to make bad men good, but to make dead men live. The church should demand that men be alive in Christ, opposed to being simply good."
--The God You Can Know, Dan DeHaan

Members want the church to succeed, not just for themselves or just for the organization, but for the sake of the kingdom.
Partnering with the church helps lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Members can draw great satisfaction from knowing that they are instrumental in leading others into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We need partners.

FAQ on Membership

Why is membership important?

  • Membership helps the staff in our mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. It helps us to identify the people to whom we can entrust the care of others.
  • Membership helps us by identifying the core group of people we can depend on.
  • Membership identifies that a person has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, that he/she is willing to go public with that faith through baptism, and that he is willing to support this ministry with his time, talents and treasure and to be held accountable. And now, with the added requirement of participation in community, it also identifies that the person will partner with us in our strategy of the “NLC Floor Plan."

Why do I have to be a part of a life group?

  • Membership here is not just having a name on a list. Being a member indicates a willingness to partner and lead with us in our mission to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that life change happens through community. A community group is the best environment to open God's Word together, pray together, grow together, be held accountable, be cared for, experience being part of a “family.”
  • Because loving relationships are a NLC purpose, we want our members to partner with us in achieving authentic community.

I am inbetween life groups. Can I still join the church?

Yes, but we encourage you to re-engage in community as soon as possible.

Why should I encourage other churchgoers to become members?

  • Because of what membership represents, members are the most qualified people to fill those positions. It is worth taking the time to find those people who have taken this important step.
  • It is worth taking the time to encourage those strong leaders, who are not yet members, to complete the process. Often, if people are not willing to be held accountable, not willing to go public with their faith through baptism, not willing to take the time to fill out a form, take a membership class, etc., it can be a red flag for other issues that relate to submitting to the authority of leadership.
